Asian corporates eye hedge funds for capital, says BNY Mellon survey


An increasing number of companies are meeting with hedge funds with a view to attracting investment capital, although businesses in Asia remain wary of the shorting risks involved, according to a Bank of New York Mellon survey.

BNY Mellon’s annual ‘Global Trends in Investor Relations’ study of nearly 400 companies from 47 countries found that 93% of businesses met with hedge funds to discuss possible investment in 2010, up from 89% the previous year.

However, 43% of the Asia-Pacific businesses that were surveyed said they were wary of meeting hedge funds due to the shorting risk, compared to the global
