Peter Thiel, the former chairman, CEO and co-founder of PayPal Inc., which was sold to eBay Inc. last fall, has resurfaced as a hedge fund manager. Thiel has set up San Francisco-based Clarium Capital Management. The firm recently launched Clarium Capital, a global macro hedge fund, and is also getting ready to debut a private equity fund, Clarium Ventures, which will focus on consumer and financial technology companies. The hedge fund manages $45 million of the firm's total $90 million in assets, of which 70% is Thiel's own capital.
