Goldman Sachs and Russell Investment group's recent report on alternative investing by institutions showed a 40% increase in investing in hedge funds worldwide, with committed capital topping $22 billion. In North America alone, the report found a 40% increase in capital committed to hedge funds while an increase in the median strategic allocation to hedge funds grew to 5% this year from 2.5% in 2001.
