Ott rejoins Viking after short sabbatical

David Ott returned to Viking Global Investors after a six-month sabbatical at the beginning of January. Despite his appearance at Viking's annual investor meeting in October, investors had feared that Ott, who co-founded Viking together with Steve Olson and managing partner Andreas Halvorsen in 1999, would not return as planned and, instead, start his own firm. Viking is in need of the help: the $3.3 billion firm's flagship Viking Global Investors offshore was down about 1% at the end of the year. Until the end of 2002, it had netted an average of 41%.
