MFA's Gaine fires back in the New York Times
20 April A recent column by New York Times op-ed writer Bill Safire, favoring SEC regulation of hedge funds, apparently irked Managed Funds Association president Jack Gaine. In a letter to the editor published in the paper on April 19, Gaine called the potential benefits of regulation "illusory." In fact, Gaine took issue with Safire's contention that hedge funds are unregulated in the first place. The MFA president pointed out that all funds are subject to securities laws on insider trading.
