Hovde Capital Advisors, a Washington D.C. money manager, has named former Merrill Lynch capital introduction chief Kirk Rostron to the post of chief operating officer.
The hire is a first step in Hovde's plans to expand its alternative investment business. The firm now runs about $280 million in a long/short strategy focused on financial stocks, the firm's specialty.
One of Rostron's first briefs will be to help set up a private equity fund. Under Rostron's watch, Hovde is also expected to expand its menu of hedge fund strategies.
