Assets for the global hedge fund industry topped the $1 trillion mark for the first time ever, according to the findings of a recent survey. The estimate, based on an in-depth survey of 39 hedge fund administrators by the Alternative Funds Services Review, found that hedge fund and fund of funds assets jumped from $745 billion to $1.1 trillion since mid-2003.
The administrators in the survey collectively handled 8,000 hedge fund vehicles spanning the globe. The AFSR survey found that 56% of managers were U.S. based, while 38% where located in Europe and 3% in Asia. Assets were not
