Quayle urges Donaldson to back off hedge funds


Bloomberg reported that former Vice President Dan Quayle, who now runs lobbying firm Quayle & Associates, met with Securities and Exchange Commission's William Donaldson to urge the commissioner to ease his stance on regulating hedge funds. An SEC spokesman confirmed that Quayle met with Donaldson, but declined to say what the meeting was about.

Quayle's interest in the issue most likely stems from his firm's work with Cerberus Capital Management LP, which Bloomberg reported is against additional regulation of the industry. Estimates of the total assets under management for hedge funds range from $850 billion to $1 trillion, and
