D. E. Shaw's Wepsic: poker king

A charity auction victory may have landed Julius Gaudio's mug in the New York Times' coverage of the Robin Hood event that raised more than $24 million on June 1. But Eric Wepsic, who co-manages D. E. Shaw's investment activities together with Gaudio and Anne Dinning, also distinguished himself last month - at poker. Competing at a tournament held at the cigar bar Macanudo in Manhattan by Credit Suisse First Boston's Advanced Execution Services, a sales and trading desk that caters to quantitative hedge funds, Wepsic beat out a field of 70 players from some 30 firms.
