Student group supports U.S. hedge fund regulation

A student group that has long supported greater disclosure for hedge funds and their investments on behalf of university endowments this week submitted a letter to the U.S. Securities Exchange Commission calling for mandatory registration of fund groups.

The group, which calls itself the Unfarallon Coalition, outlined its support for registration in a 32-page document, suggesting that funds publicly disclose fees as well as things far beyond what the standard SEC registered investment advisor status would provide, such as actual investments, including short positions.
