SEC slated to consider hedge fund regulation

The long-running debate on whether the Securities and Exchange Commission should tighten its regulation of hedge funds could come to a vote at their next open meeting on Tuesday October 26.

Specifically, the Commission will consider whether to adopt rule 203(b)(3)-2 under the Investment Advisers Act of 1940, to require hedge fund advisers to register with the SEC, according to public agenda item posted on the agency's website. Although it is listed on the agenda for consideration, it does not mean that the SEC commissioners will actually opt to vote on the measure that day, according to insiders.
