Astounding performance sees Robbins shine in 2004


In the world of hedge funds, there are performers, there are outperformers, and then there is Larry Robbins' Glenview Capital. While few funds managed to produce double-digit returns in 2004 and many were flat to negative, Glenview was up 34% net-of-fees.

That astonishing figure can be attributed in part to a stellar November, in which the $3.2 billion Glenview Capital produced a hefty 8% gain, and a strong December, when the fund rose approximately 6%. Glenview's 2004 net return puts Robbins in the same class as the Tiger cubs, Renaissance's Jim Simons, and other hedge fund luminaries.
