Great Gable kicks off with equity fund

San Francisco-based Great Gable Partners has opened its doors. The firm founded by Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette alumni Jacques Soenens and Simon Baker, recently began trading a value-based long/short equity hedge fund with a small-cap bias.

Great Gable Partners is managed by Soenens, formerly co-founder and co-portfolio manager at Osmium Partners, which during his tenure returned 82% net of fees.

The fund invests primarily in U.S. equities. It has a long-bias with a neutral risk-adjusted exposure structure and on average holds between 20 to 40 longs and 20 to 40 shorts. The fund will assume a more friendly activist
