Paloma partners snaps up Kupperman from Carlyle


US private equity giant Carlyle has suffered a setback in its attempt to build a significant presence in the hedge fund sphere with the departure of David Kupperman to Donald Sussman's Paloma Partners.

Kupperman was one of the key figures charged with recruiting a team of traders and fund managers with a view to rebuilding the internal fund of funds operation that foundered after the spin-out of the Rock Creek Group in 2003.

Rock Creek, headed up by Afsaneh Beschloss, has gone from strength to strength, winning prestigious mandates including one from Virginia Retirement Services
