Farallon promotes literacy in Oakland

Blighted Oakland has always been something of a poor cousin to its more cosmopolitan cousin, San Francisco. But Tom Steyer and the folks at Farallon Capital Management are stretching a hand across the Golden Gate Bridge to ensure that youngsters get something of a head start when it comes to literacy. The Farallon foundation recently teamed up with the William G. Irwin Charitable Foundation and the Goodman Family Charitable Foundation to put close to $500,000 to work renovating and expanding the children's reading room at the main branch of the Oakland library.
