Activist group seeks CalPERS hedge fund disclosure

A watchdog group called the California First Amendment Coalition this week filed freedom of information requests aimed at getting the California Public Employees' Retirement System to disclose performance and portfolio details about its hedge fund investments.

The coalition, which includes media groups like the Associated Press, seeks similar portfolio disclosure from the University of California pension system, the Golden State's second largest public retirement system, after CalPERS. The watchdog group's position is that the public ought to be able to review details of investments in alternatives made with public funds.
