Individuals, family offices still biggest hedge fund investors


While "institutionalization" is an oft-repeated industry buzzword that refers to the rapid rise in institutional investors in hedge funds, most of the money invested in hedge funds still comes from individuals and family offices, according to a new survey.

The 11th annual Hennessee Hedge Fund Manager survey found that individuals and family offices comprise 44% of the hedge fund industry's total assets, which now stand at over $1 trillion. That is up from $795 billion in assets last year, according to the survey.
