Walek & Associates studies press perceptions of hedge funds

The New York-based public relations firm Walek & Associates this week released a survey of financial reporters, finding that respondents thought that hedge fund managers were "smarter" than their mutual fund counterparts.

The survey also found that 47% of participating journalists thought the industry was growing too quickly, up from 32% three years ago. And the majority of those surveyed also though hedge funds add to stock market volatility. A 61% majority said new hedge fund regulations from the Securities and Exchange Commission would help protect investors.
