Mid and small-cap equity strategies have been gaining ground all year, in part benefiting from increased interest as compelling opportunities in large-cap equities become harder to find. In August, a number of funds beat the Russell 2000 index, which fell 1.85% in the month.
One big gainer was Clovis Capital, which rose about 4.2% for a year-to-date total of roughly 8.06%. Also bucking the broad market's decline were Curtis Macnguyen's Ivory Capital, up about 1.29% for a year-to-date total of some 9.98% and Wayne Cooperman's Cobalt Offshore, up 0.83% for an annual total of 13.88%.
