Temujin Fund Management's 4.95% gain in May is impressive under any circumstance, but the bloodbath in the equities market that month makes it all the more notable. Year to date, the $646 million hybrid quantitative/qualitative long/short equity fund, managed by Marco Battaglia, is up 29.11%.
Temujin's success has also enhanced the overall fortunes of Marek Fludzinski's Thales Fund Management, as roughly $500 million of Thales' $2 billion flagship statistical arb portfolio is allocated to Temujin. Thales seeded, and helped roll out, Temujin in December 2004 and owns the firm in conjunction with Battaglia. Thales' statistical arb portfolio was flat
