Hedge fund manager David Gelbaum was recently named by The Los Angeles Times as one of the most influential power brokers in Southern California. The 57-year-old Newport Beach resident was cited for his civic leadership in efforts to preserve the region's pristine desert and mountains as well as his fundraising for federal parkland, notably Yosemite National Park. The paper reported that Gelbaum has given some $100 million to the Sierra Club over the past decade. Gelbaum came in at No. 9, ranking just behind television producer Jerry Bruckheimer and Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.
