Ascend Capital, which manages $1.2 billion, is moving its headquarters within San Francisco. Until recently the firm was located in the city's famous Transamerica Pyramid building. Now the equity shop has moved closer to the Embarcadero, to 50 California Street.
Ascend was founded in 1999 by Malcolm Fairbairn and originally focused solely on long/short equity. In the last few years, however, the firm has expanded its menu of strategies to include quantitative funds invested across the capital structure.
