Third Avenue staffing special situations


Third Avenue Management has hired new analysts and an in-house counsel to bolster its special situations investing capabilities. The firm, founded in 1986 by Martin Whitman, a value investing guru, currently manages $600 million of hedge fund assets within its $25 billion complex.

The two new analysts, Michael Fineman and Jonathan Krautmann, are part of a team that manages the $100 million Special Situations Fund, launched in 2003, and they contribute to the newly launched Vision Fund, which concentrates on mergers and acquisitions.
