Amaranth founder mulls new firm


Nick Maounis, founder of Amaranth Advisors, the hedge fund firm that imploded last year on $6.4 billion in losses, is understood to be trying to launch a new business.

Quoting people close to the matter, The Wall Street Journal reports that Maounis is considering launching a firm with some former colleagues from Amaranth. The new firm would either manage money for investors directly or assist other funds in running their businesses.

According to the newspaper, two names under consideration for the firm are "Continuum" and "Segue."

David Boies, an attorney for Maounis, told the paper that Maounis's "primary focus of
