Shumway alum to launch TMT fund

John Thaler, a former Shumway Capital Partners portfolio manager, has founded his own firm and is set to launch a new fund in November.

JAT Capital’s fund will be a global equity long/short fund focusing on the technology, media, telecommunications (TMT) and consumer sectors.

Thaler joined $5.2 billion Shumway, which was founded by Tiger Management alum Chris Shumway, at its inception in April 2002 as an analyst.

Most recently, Thaler was a portfolio manager for Shumway’s long/short global technology, media and telecommunications fund, which was launched in January last year.—JDC
