Chart of the month: Sprott profits from equity market upheaval

Despite getting off to an unpromising start and experiencing downside volatility in August and November, Sprott Asset Management's Offshore fund had an excellent 2007 as it logged big gains in the last third of the year. Finishing the year up 41.06%, the long/short equity fund left the 9.84% gain of the Absolute Return U.S. Equity Index in the dust.

Last year's results have produced a cumulative return since the fund's January 2002 inception of 379.76%. This equates to an annualized compound rate of return of 29.87%. Sprott Offshore reported gains of 13.38% and 10.43% in September and October
