Simons: $60 million for Stony Brook

Renaissance (Technologies) man James Simons is giving $60 million to Stony Brook University, the largest gift ever received by any public university in New York State. The gift will finance the Simons Center for Geometry and Physics. Including this gift, Simons, who served as chairman of Stony Brook's mathematics department from 1968 to 1976, and his wife Marilyn, who earned a Ph.D. in economics from Stony Brook, have given a total of $100 million to the university.
