Convicted fraudster Samuel Israel, who only briefly baffled law enforcement officials with a poorly-staged suicide ruse, turned himself in on July 2 after speaking to his mother and following the arrest of his girlfriend on charges of aiding and abetting the evasion of his prison sentence.

U.S. Marshals began a manhunt for Israel shortly after his failure to appear on June 9 at a Massachusetts federal prison to serve his 20-year sentence for defrauding investors of $450 million in his Bayou Group of hedge funds (“U.S. Marshals hunt for Bayou Group co-founder,” June 13).
