Steinhart Hebrew school hits snag

The New York City Board of Education and civil rights advocates for a "separation of church and state" may challenge the Brooklyn charter school being backed by hedge fund legend Michael Steinhardt. The school intends to offer students the option of taking classes in Hebrew rather than English, according to the New York Post. Plenty of other polyglot schools offer students Spanish, Greek and other tongues as a second language, but critics fear that the Steinhardt-backed school, which would be eligible for tax dollars, could cross the line by teaching in Hebrew and become a religious school.
