The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s rule forcing hedge funds, and other institutional investors, to disclose their short sale positions has been extended until August 1.
The SEC first mandated the disclosure during a short-selling ban on hundreds of financial stocks that was announced on September 18. While the ban was lifted October 18, the disclosure requirement remained in effect.
After lobbying by the Managed Funds Association, the SEC agreed to keep the short sale disclosures out of the public eye. The agency is now soliciting public comment on the disclosure rule, including opinions as to whether the
