Treasury Secretary Paulson calls for more hedge fund regulation

If Hank Paulson has his way, hedge funds will soon face heightened regulation.

The U.S. Treasury Secretary told attendees yesterday at an event at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, Calif., that his proposal for the creation of the Conduct of Business Agency, a new government body that would regulate the activities of financial firms, would require hedge funds to obtain charters and to heighten transparency regarding their investment activities, a reversal of his previous stance on regulating hedge funds.
