Winners and losers in Japan as TOPIX drops


Topix was down over 7% on the month and long/shorts posted mixed performance, with some managing to generate decent gains.

Henderson Japan Absolute Return was up 3.98% bringing three-month returns to 11.83%, while Hachiman Japan gained 3.35% for January putting three-month numbers at 6.21%. A 2.7% monthly gain put Kuromatsu's three-month returns at 7.34% and Marshall Wace Japan TOPS was up 1.62% for January bringing three-month figures to 11.57%.

Myojo Japan Long Short Fund was up 0.53% on the month to bring three-month figures to -2.27% and NewSmith Japan New Horizons saw a 0.09% January putting three-month returns at 3.35%.
