Despite a tough economic environment during which charitable donations have been on the decline, the Robin Hood Foundation managed to raise more at this year’s annual fundraising benefit than it did last year. But that’s only after George Soros and members of the foundation’s board matched the evening’s donations on a dollar-for-dollar basis.
This year’s benefit, a scaled-down version of past events held May 12 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York, was hosted by Jon Stewart and raised $72.6 million. That’s a 28% increase from last year’s dinner, which raised $56.5 million.
