Morgan Stanley hires southwest PB chief from UBS


Resurgence in prime brokerage space prompts regional expansion.

Morgan Stanley has hired John Carlisle to establish a prime brokerage office in Dallas and expand the firm’s business in the Southwest. Carlisle is leaving UBS prime brokerage after eight years building that firm’s Southwest operations.

Carlisle is on garden leave and will begin his role at Morgan Stanley in October.

The decision to expand its presence in the Southwest comes amid Morgan Stanley’s resurgence as an important player in prime brokerage following a major setback in the fall of 2008 when clients curtailed their exposure to the firm fearing additional brokerage failures after the fall of Lehman
