Shutdowns hit 130, in line with 2008 rate

European hedge fund shutdowns have hit 130 this year, with recent closures including Copenhagen Capital and the JB Diversified Fixed Income fund.

But the attrition rate is not yet showing any noticeable increase on previous years - with the rate of liquidations this year keeping pace almost exactly with last year's total of 176 hedge fund shutdowns in Europe.

At the start of this year, we counted just over 1,600 hedge funds in Europe. On an annualised basis, the current number of shutdowns this year would imply an attrition rate of just over 10% - in line with previous years.
