Marc Desmidt, CEO for Asia-Pacific at SAC successor firm Point72 Asset Management and a 25-year veteran of the Asian markets, delivered the keynote address at the industry's big annual event in May
The HFI Asia Forum 2016 was held on Tuesday 17 May at the JW Marriott Hotel in Hong Kong – under the overall theme this year of 'generating alpha amidst a perfect storm'.
Desmidt has spent the past 25 years investing, managing and leading in Asia in two different markets, giving him a deep perspective on the region as well as long-term relationships. Most recently, he was the head of alpha strategies at BlackRock, managing more than 100 employees across multiple teams and countries – placing him in a unique position to talk about alpha generation across the Asian region.
His address focussed on building the right product and business strategies to deliver strong performance amidst challenging market conditions, but also to create a long-term profitable hedge fund business in Asia.
Other speakers included Jimmy Feng Hsiung of Acion Partners, Eugene Chung of Axial Capital Management, Han Ching Choong of Kriya Capital, Jeb J Altonaga of Pinyin Capital Management and Venkat Subramaniam of Infina Finance.
